Vibram HIstory

The Italian mountaineer Vitale Bramani is credited with inventing the first rubber lug, later replacing smooth leather soles fitted with hobnails or steel cleats, commonly used up until 1937 – the year when Vibram rubber became popular and the company went into business. However, it was the tragedy that drove Bramani to develop a new type of sole. In 1935, Bramani went on an expedition in the Italian Alps where six of his friends died in a mountaineering accident. The deaths of Bramani's mountaineering friends were blamed on unfavorable weather conditions and inadequate footwear. The leather soles simply slid down the icy slopes and did not protect climbers from cold at all. After working on the design for about a year following the tragedy, Bramani developed the first rubber lug sole with its thick stamped footprint. The main Bramani’s goal was to provide superb traction on diverse surfaces, especially slippery and wet surfaces, as well as to make rubber soles extremely durable and abrasion resistant. The latest vulcanized rubber of the time was used as a raw material for the first Vibram-branded model. Therefore, Vitale Bramani patented the first rubber sole in 1937 and the brand was named Vibram as a tribute to the founder - the first two letters of his given name and the first three letters of his last name.

Although the brand is best known among the outdoor sports and mountaineering community, Vibram also produces numerous products related to high-quality soles and footwear specifically designed for military, motocross, rescue, law enforcement or industrial use. Today, Vibram soles are affixed to the bottom of many of the world know boots, including brands like Timberland, Converse, Lumberjack, New Balance, Lowa and many others.

The inner bodies of Hofner mag pouches are equipped with rubber layers to ensure tight and secure fit of the magazines inside. These layers act as grip pads and provide high level of friction between rubber and metal, wet or slippery surfaces. This is particularly the case when using short pouches, where magazines often fit in with the rounds sticking out. Hofner mag pouches let the operators choose not to worry anymore about falling out magazines when moving. The smart design of Hofner pouches and the use of Vibram rubber layers guarantee the secure storage of the ammunition.
